Brief History
In
past, for more than two years, Sr. Amélie and Daniel worked
on providing food and
accommodation to some of the refugees in Johannesburg areas.
Together with Anastasia they always looked at improving the
quality of service to the clients in promoting self-reliance
through skill development. Some poor South Africans also
benefited of this voluntary program.
But
with our clients, we came to realize that the solution to
hand over money or food or to provide accommodation, though
it was an immediate and not negligible relief system, it did
not help for a durable solution of the beneficiaries.
These
facts not only are true in the case of Sr. Amélie, Daniel
and Anastasia’s experience with some refugees, but they
are also and always true in the service of many NPO’s
which serve in this sector in Africa. Furthermore one of the
often reasons of the discouragement of overseas donors
themselves is principally the lack of encouraging results
from the funds destined to the work of development in
Africa. That’s why a change of direction became necessary.
